Scope of this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how CarbCheckBuddy handles information through its website, app and related support services. CarbCheckBuddy is an Australian registered business name operating under ABN 49 584 733 953. For privacy requests contact info@carbcheckbuddy.com.au.
Depending on the mode and features you choose, records may include sensitive health information such as user-entered glucose, insulin or medication details. We treat these records as sensitive and take privacy and security into account when operating the service.
Information we may collect
Depending on your chosen features, we may collect and hold:
- Account information such as name, email address and details needed to authenticate and secure your account.
- Records you choose to enter about food, nutrition, meals, glucose, insulin, medications, activity, weight, water and notes.
- User-entered sensor replacement dates, routine reminders and notification settings.
- Photos, descriptions or other inputs you submit to food scanning and AI-assisted features.
- Subscription plan, entitlement and transaction identifiers received from the relevant billing provider.
- App version, device, service diagnostics and security-related information needed to operate and troubleshoot the service.
- Support messages and other details you choose to provide when contacting us.
We collect information from you when you create an account, enter records, use app features or contact support, and from authorised service providers that help deliver the features you use.
How information may be used
We use information to deliver requested features, maintain and secure your account, synchronise supported records, show summaries, assist with food scanning, validate subscription access, send enabled reminders, troubleshoot service issues and respond to support and privacy requests.
Optional manual diabetes records are maintained for personal reference only. CarbCheckBuddy does not import CGM data or calculate insulin doses or make treatment decisions.
AI-assisted food features
When you use AI Food Scanner, recipe or menu image analysis, the selected image is resized and sent with any relevant meal description or notes to the app’s image-analysis service. The image-analysis integration is configured to use the OpenAI API to identify foods and estimate portions and nutrition. Results can be incomplete or inaccurate; please review them carefully before saving them to your diary. Do not include unrelated personal information in food photos or notes.
The image-analysis request does not include your entire saved health diary. Other food-description estimates and in-app help may be generated locally, depending on the feature you use. For questions about AI processing, contact privacy support.
When information may be shared
CarbCheckBuddy does not offer personal health records for sale. We use service providers for necessary functions including website and app hosting, authentication and cloud storage (including Supabase), food-photo analysis (OpenAI API integration), push notifications, diagnostics and subscription billing (Apple, Google or Stripe, as applicable).
Some food and product information searches use publicly available services such as Open Food Facts and Wikipedia; product barcodes or food search terms may be sent to those services when you use these features. Optional device fitness features can request step, distance, calories or workout information from Apple Health or Android Health Connect after you grant device permissions. Push notifications require a device subscription, notification permissions and certain device information to schedule and deliver reminders.
If you use the optional Care Circle sharing feature, approved invited users may be able to view selected account records, including meals, medication entries and manual diabetes records, in a read-only view. Please share only with people you trust. We may also disclose information where required by law or at your direction or with valid consent. Other providers may publish separate privacy terms for their own services.
Payments and subscriptions
Our Free option does not require a paid subscription. When applicable, Apple App Store, Google Play or Stripe processes purchases according to its payment terms. CarbCheckBuddy typically uses subscription and transaction references to determine plan access rather than collecting full payment-card details on this marketing website.
Direct web checkout is not yet publicly enabled. Prices, billing periods, cancellation and renewal details are described in our Subscription Terms.
Overseas processing and disclosure
Cloud hosting, authentication, billing, notification and AI services, including the OpenAI API integration used for food-photo analysis, may involve processing or access outside Australia. The location of processing depends on the relevant provider, account configuration and feature in use. CarbCheckBuddy does not claim that all information remains in Australia.
Our primary Supabase project is hosted in Seoul, South Korea. Other providers, including AI, notification and payment services, may process or access information in other countries; their locations and relevant safeguards remain under review before public launch. Storage, security and retention
We use account authentication, access controls and other technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect personal information. Some app information is stored on your device, and eligible account records may also be synchronised to the cloud. No internet-connected service is completely risk-free.
We aim to retain personal information only as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations or resolve legitimate disputes. You can delete your account using the app's dedicated Delete My Account feature. This removes your sign-in account and associated active account records; it is different from clearing diary records while keeping an account. Financial and payment-provider records, security logs, exported files and backups may have different lawful retention or deletion periods. Your choices and privacy requests
You may ask to access or correct personal information associated with your account or request deletion, subject to identity verification and applicable law. You can choose not to use optional features, including AI scanning or sensor replacement reminders.
To delete your account in the app, open Settings → Account & Privacy → Delete My Account and follow the password and confirmation steps. If you cannot access the app, use our Account Deletion page to request deletion by email. For other requests, email info@carbcheckbuddy.com.au. Please avoid sending sensitive health records in an ordinary email unless strictly necessary.
Privacy questions and complaints
Email info@carbcheckbuddy.com.au and explain the issue. We may request limited information to verify that you are authorised to make the request, then review the concern and respond within a reasonable time.
If you are unsatisfied with the outcome, you may be able to complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), depending on the applicable law and circumstances.
Children and supervised use
CarbCheckBuddy is not presented as a child-directed service. Age eligibility and any parental or guardian consent requirements must be confirmed as part of the app launch configuration. Contact support before creating an account for a child or a person who needs assisted consent.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as our features, technology providers and obligations change. The update date above will be changed when material revisions are published, and significant changes may also be notified in the app or website.
